It was a successful weekend for Leyton Fourie, who entered the first round of the Northern Regions Junior Max championship in order to prepare for his 2019 karting campaign. The race, which took place at Laserfiche Raceway on Saturday 9 February, saw the SA Champ achieve multiple podium finishes.
Saturday’s qualifying session set the tone for the weekend, with Leyton qualifying on pole position. He led the majority of the first race, before settling for second place. The remaining two races saw much of the same, with Leyton happy to use the heats as a way to test various handling set-ups.
“The kart felt good and whilst I could have pushed it and myself a bit harder, I needed to use the time to try different race set-up options. I do not intend to compete in this championship in 2019, so whilst I was happy with the results and my pace, it didn’t make sense to take unnecessary risks,” explained Leyton.
The next time Leyton will compete in this class will likely be in the Africa Open later in the year.
“A massive thank you to RKT for a fantastic weekend and to my sponsors; Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers, Express Hire, Remote Hygiene and National Pride Trading. I am feeling very positive about the season ahead,” Leyton concluded.
