Leyton Fourie

Leyton Fourie enjoyed some great results at the 3rd round of the Junior Max Championship held at Killarney (Cape Town) this past weekend. Whilst coming home with some silverware is great, Leyton will be even happier that he was able to secure a very strong points haul.

The Friday afternoon qualifying session set the tone for Leyton’s weekend when he put his Tony Kart on the front row of the grid. He drove a fantastic first race, not putting a wheel out of place to claim 3rd place.

The second race held much of the same, with Leyton making RKT proud at the front of the field. After 15 hard fought laps, Leyton took the chequered flag in 2nd place.

Leyton and his kart seemed perfectly in tune, but a podium finish in the final race was not on the cards. After running at the sharp end of the field for the majority of the race, Leyton was passed for 3rd on the final lap. He had to take evasive action to avoid hitting the competitor and ran off track. This left him with a damaged nose cone and he had to settle for 6th.

Fortunately, Leyton’s brilliant race 1 and 2 results allowed him to claim second overall for the day.

“My kart felt really good this weekend and whilst the Cape Town drivers were very quick, I was able to match their pace. It is unfortunate that I wasn’t able to claim a podium in the final heat, but I am happy with the points that I took away from the event,” commented Leyton.

“Thank you to the RKT team for giving me a super competitive kart and to my sponsor Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers for their continued support,” he concluded.

The final round of the national championship will be held at Zwartkops at the end of September.
