The third round of the Northern Regions Junior Max Championship proved to be a day of highs and lows for Leyton Fourie. The 2017 Mini Max Champion walked away from Zwartkops with a race podium and a solid points haul.
Leyton qualified 6th, with a lap time that was a mere two tenths off pole. He had a great first race, taking his Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers Kart to a podium finish.
The second race was particularly action packed with Leyton embroiled in a six kart fight for the lead. He looked set for another podium finish when a massive last lap incident occurred. Leyton lost some ground, avoiding the carnage and managed to cross the line in 5th place.
Leyton finished Heat 3 in 5th place. A fantastic result driven by herculean effort considering that his kart was seriously off the pace after the race two accident.
“My team did the best they could this weekend to find more speed. We found some on Saturday morning but it is still not enough for me to challenge for wins. We have some work to do but we will get there and soon. I really believe had things gone a bit differently, we could have ended the day on the podium,” explained Leyton.
Leyton ended the day just outside the podium standings in fifth, a mere 6 points off first place proving how close the Junior Max class is in 2017.
