Leyton Fourie had a great weekend at Laserfiche Raceway, taking a podium finish and gaining some valuable Junior Max championship points in the process.
Leyton had a good qualifying session, placing his RKT branded Tony Kart on the fourth row of the grid. All of this effort however came to naught when he was bumped off the track in the first heat. Leyton drove hard to recover to 9th position and his immense pace placed him on the front row of the grid for race two.
The second race was hard fought, but Leyton put in a solid performance relishing his position in the front of the field. He took the chequered flag in third place.
Leyton’s good form continued in the final heat where he ended just outside the podium in fourth place. Despite his race 1 set-back, Leyton finished the day fourth overall in a 17 strong field.
“It was a good day overall. I am a bit disappointed about what happened in race 1 as I think I could have easily secured third overall for the day. That is just the nature of racing. We struggled with some outright pace this weekend but I gave it 110% and the team tried everything they could to extract as much as possible from my engine. We know we have some work to do with my engine in particular but I know and they know what the problem is, therefore we will get it sorted for the next race at Zwartkops. Thank you to RKT, my family, friends and Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers,” commented Leyton.
