The fifth round of the Northern Regions Rok Cup proved to be a good one for Leyton Fourie, who claimed two race wins and overall honours in OKJ this weekend (20 July 2019).

The weekend started off on the right foot, with Leyton setting the fastest qualifying lap. The lap times were, however, a clear indication of how close the racing was going to be, with only 5 tenths of a second separating the top ten competitors!

Leyton had a good start to the first race, launching his RKT prepped Kosmic Kart into the lead. He kept his head down and claimed a lights to flag victory, finishing a full 6 tenths of a second ahead of the pack.

Race two wasn’t quite as “easy”. Leyton found himself embroiled in an intense four kart fight for second place. Whilst the racing was absolutely brilliant, the tussle allowed the race leader to open a massive gap. With positions changing every lap and a few bumps along the way, Leyton crossed the finish line in 3rd place. From a spectator’s point of view, this was by far the race of the day.

A few solid overtaking manoeuvres saw Leyton back in the lead in race three. It was lap after lap of hard racing, but in the end, Leyton took the win and first overall for the day.

“It was an awesome day’s racing and I am very happy with the results. RKT gave me a great kart, which allowed me to win two of the three heats. I am really looking forward to a break now as I have spent 9 days at the track during the past 2 weeks.
