The annual Rotax Max Africa Open will be taking place at the Vaal Kart Circuit this weekend (6 and 7 July) and Leyton Fourie is ready to tackle the challenge head on.

Results this weekend won’t count towards any championship, it is a winner takes all event, with the prize, an entry into the International Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals. The world finals will be taking place in Napoli this year and is a fantastic opportunity to showcase driving talent.

Leyton has flourished overseas this year and any opportunity to race on the International stage will serve as valuable experience for what promises to be a very long and successful racing career.

Although Leyton hasn’t been actively competing in Rotax events this year, he did compete in a regional race, in his RKT prepped Junior Max kart, in February. The SA champ took two 2nd place and one 3rd place finish in the three heats. If these results are anything to go by, Leyton has a good chance at the 2019 Africa Open title.

Leyton won the 2017 Africa Open title in the Mini Max Class and went on to finish 4th in that year’s world final, which was held in Portugal.

The racing is going to be frenetic with qualifying taking place on Saturday afternoon and the final on Sunday. There will be two heats on Sunday before the final.

Special thanks are extended to Leyton’s sponsors: Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers, Express Hire, Remote Hygiene and National Pride Trading.
