Leyton Fourie has begun his 2019 OKJ campaign on a high note, taking two podiums and setting the fastest lap in race two at Laserfiche Raceway this past weekend.
Leyton made his intentions clear from the onset on Saturday morning, putting his RKT Racing Kosmic Kart onto the front row of the OKJ grid. He missed out on pole position by just 0.025 of a second.
The race one action was nail biting and whilst Leyton comfortably had the pace to run at the front of the grid, his race was compromised by a fellow competitor who decided to help him off track. Leyton was forced to retire from the race and was classified down in 10th place.
Fortunately, Leyton was able to put in a decent lap time and started the second heat from 5th on the grid. He had a fantastic start and quickly found himself racing for position at the front of the pack. After a hard fought race, Leyton crossed the finish line in 3rd place.
Leyton set the fastest lap time during the second race and put himself into pole position for the final heat. He drove another great race to finish on the podium.
His outstanding recovery placed Leyton 4th overall for the day, a great achievement given his DNF in race one.
“I am satisfied with my results this weekend, just disappointed with some driver conduct but I guess it’s what I have come to expect. I definitely had excellent race pace, especially towards the end of the races and this is the positive that I will be taking out of the weekend. We will however look into our opening race pace as this is usually our strength. Thank you to RKT for doing an amazing job with my kart and to my sponsors Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers, Express Hire, Remote Hygiene and National Pride Trading for making this all possible,” expressed Leyton.
