GOOD PACE MARRED BY BAD LUCK

Leyton Fourie’s bad luck continued at Laserfiche Raceway this weekend, where despite having the pace to finish on the Junior Max podium, he found himself at the wrong place at the wrong time and was caught up in two on track accidents.

The day started on a positive note with Leyton putting in a great qualifying lap to secure fifth place on the grid. His lap time was just 0.016 of a second off fourth place and a mere two tenths off pole.

The first race began with a “bang” and was red flagged following a lap one accident. When the race restarted, Leyton wasted no time getting up to third position. He had a hard fought race to eventually finish fourth.

Leyton once again benefitted from a great start in the second race and was running in the front pack when two competitors touched resulting in a third hitting Leyton. Although he was able to get going again, Leyton was now at the back of the pack.

The carnage continued in the final race with more bumping, pushing and barging into turn one. Leyton was once caught up in on track antics of others and eventually finished the race in 11th position.

“It was a very frustrating day because although I had the pace to run at the front, I kept getting caught up in accidents which I had nothing to do with. My team (RKT) did a fantastic job and I am just sorry that I couldn’t give them or Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers the result they deserve. I guess that is just the nature of racing and I hope for some better luck at the next race,” commented Leyton.
