It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Leyton Fourie as he fought his way valiantly to a podium finish at the first round of the MSA Academy (OKJ) championship at Laserfiche Raceway this past weekend.

Leyton showed tremendous pace during Friday’s practice sessions and was feeling confident of a good showing during Saturday’s qualifying session. Unfortunately this was not meant to be. A broken chain proved disastrous, leaving Leyton down in a very unfamiliar 10th position.

The first race saw Leyton methodically line up and pass six of his fellow competitors to take a hard earned fourth place finish.

Although Leyton started third for the second race, he had to drive the wheels off his Tony Kart to stay at the front of the pack. He had the drive of his life taking the podium finish in an ailing kart. To prove just how hard Leyton drove, he took third place despite his kart being 6 tenths off the pace.

Leyton started the final race from the back of the pack. He drove his heart out to finish in a commendable fifth position.
“I would like to thank everyone at RKT, Ricky Perdigo, my family and Bidvest Compendium Insurance Brokers for their support and dedication,” concluded Leyton.

Leyton has definitely established himself as a front runner and has already shown that he will be a title contender even though this is his debut OKJ season.
